From San Antonio to Kenya
During October 2006, the Leader Compass worked in conjunction with the YMCA of San Antonio on a project to benefit the Kenya YMCA. Stephanie Skinner of the YMCA of San Antonio spent six weeks in Kenya, working with various YMCA programs and preparing for the construction of a banda (Swahili for hut) at the Kenya YMCA’s Camp Naivasha.

Before arriving in Kenya, Stephanie led fundraising efforts to raise money for the cost of the banda. Stephanie, along with Amos Balongo of the Leader Compass, assisted in the construction of the banda at YMCA Camp Naivasha.

The banda was an addition to the camp facilities that includes other cabins built in the form of traditional Kenyan huts. The newly constructed banda will provide housing for children and other YMCA guests who visit the camp.
